Moving violations: a moving story?

Capt. Colm O’Leary assigned all the “New Cops on the Block” to the “Perch and Pounce position” on Palm Boulevard at Laguna Avenue. Easy pickings.

The infamous “traffic trap” a cleverly concealed sign indicating ‘No Right Turn on Red Light’- was the cause for more snow birds, seniors, tourists, and locals to get moving violations.

Oh, the coffers of Hollywood were filling everyday thanks to the Baby Cops getting their chops writing nefarious moving violations.

(Violation Cost: $238.00 – Traffic School $50 – Parking TBA)

Uncle Colm explained it was perfect scenario for a new cop to learn how to turn on the red lights and sirens, follow the dastardly right-turn maker, approach the vehicle, speak to civilians, and write a ticket.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe Baby Cops got high-fives and slaps on the backs from the not much older cops- who had the same gig the year before.

Somehow, the NBC Consumer Reports specialist in Hollywood caught wind of the scam.

No one knows who wrote the anonymous e-mail to the reporter. However, a film-crew parked behind the Baby Cops, filming, for several days and exposed the irregular and illegal sign placement, the frequency of tickets written and amount of tax dollars spent on Baby Cops, perching and pouncing – giving out tickets several hours a day.

Surely they could be doing something better around the City of Hollywood.

Uncle Colm will never know- who leaked the scam to the press.

“You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said ‘Parking Fine.’ So that was nice.”

Oh, I wish those cops would get slapped. We have those ‘No Right on Red’ signs up here in the FL Panhandle. People get nailed constantly….. shame.

And, so expensive – both money and time. Cheers!
