Capt. Colm Sullivan assigned all the “New Cops on the Block” to the “Perch and Pounce position” on Geary Boulevard at Laguna Street. Easy pickings.
The infamous “traffic trap” a cleverly concealed sign indicating No Right Turn on Red Light– was the cause for more tourists, and locals, to get moving violations.
Oh, the coffers of San Francisco were filling everyday thanks to the Baby Cops getting their chops writing nefarious moving violations. (Violation Cost: $238.00 – Traffic School $50 – Parking TBA)
Uncle Colm explained it was perfect scenario for a new cop to learn how to turn on red lights and sirens, follow the dastardly right turn maker, approach the vehicle, speak to civilians, and write a ticket.
The Baby Cops got high-fives and slaps on the backs from the not much older cops- who had the same gig the year before.
Somehow, the NBC Consumer Reports specialist in San Francisco caught wind of the scam.
No one knows who wrote the anonymous e-mail to the reporter. However, a film-crew parked behind the Baby Cops, filming, for several days and exposed the irregular and illegal sign placement, the frequency of tickets written and amount of tax dollars spent on Baby Cops, perching and pouncing – giving out tickets several hours a day.
Surely they could be doing something better around the world class City of San Francisco.
Uncle Colm will never know- who leaked the scam to the press.
May those who love us love us.
And those that don’t love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn’t turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles,
So we’ll know them by their limping. Irish Blessing
